  • Overview

    (1-2 sentences describing overall responsibilities) The MSL is a non-commercial (typically field-based), advanced degree professional who focuses their efforts in a specific therapeutic area and serves as a cross-functional liaison between the company and KOLs and other healthcare professionals and identified centers of excellence. The MSL is a scientific expert who compliantly communicates relevant scientific and clinical data in a variety of professional settings. 


    • Stays current with scientific advances in the field. 
    • Compliantly distributes field intelligence and insights gained from discussions with thought leaders / other HCPs, attendance at conferences, his/her own research. 
    • Responds to requests for scientific information and data, including unsolicited, off-label questions. 
    • Identifies barriers to clinical trial enrollment at sites with enrollment challenges and provides solutions. 
    • Collaborates in creation of medical advisory boards and provides strategic insights. 
    • Educates internal staff with emphasis on sales and marketing. 
    • Focuses on medical centers which are anticipated to benefit from a new therapy and/or an expanded indication for an existing therapy; and where there is the greatest demonstrated need for scientific interaction. 
    • Builds relationships with C-suite decision makers and presents scientific and clinic data when necessary to aide in product selection. 
    • Ensures company is in compliant with regulatory guidelines. 
    • Compliantly tracks scientific exchange with HCPs.


    • Education/Special Training Required: MD, DO, PhD in scientific discipline, NP, BSN or equivalent 
    • Qualifications/Work Experience Required:  Ideally 3-5 years in a MSL role 
    • Has pharmaceutical, medical device, or biotech background 
    • Neurovascular, cardiovascular experience preferred (clinical background in one or both of these areas a plus) 
    • Understanding of the MSL role and function 
    • Knowledge of industry regulatory and compliance guidelines 
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills allowing for successful interactions with people at all levels inside and outside of company
