  • Overview

    The Technical Writer is responsible for updating user manuals for medical devices. They will work on a team to update all user manuals for compliance to the new European Union Medical Device Regulation (EUMDR). This includes researching and scoping requirements, scoping affected user manuals, locating and updating source files, coordinating translation of updated source files, and routing updated user manuals for approval through an electronic approval system. 

    Responsibilities

    • Update/edit user manuals 
    • Research and write content that needs to be added or edited 
    • Work with project teams of subject-matter experts (engineers, regulatory affairs, marketing, quality) to determine and review content 
    • Help devise and execute schedules 
    • Solicit and incorporate feedback into drafts of user manuals 
    • Write, update, and format user manuals in various software—Adobe InDesign, Adobe FrameMaker, Microsoft Word, Arbortext 6&7 
    • Coordinate translations of user manuals, labels, and software using a company-selected vendor

    Qualifications

    • Experience: 2-5 years 
    • Education: Bachelors or higher (required) 
    • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook and Word; Excel is a plus)
    • Proficient in Adobe Suite (InDesign; Framemaker, Photoshop, Illustrator are extras)
    • Proficient in authoring in an XML editor (Arbortext a plus)
    • Required Attributes:

    • Ability to self-motivate, self-manage (i.e., you will be given a task with a defined end point and loose parameters; you’ll be free to reach that end point according to your own working style)
    • Ability to focus, stay on task, and stay positive
